Sham, Sony and Nintendo will NEVER work together, lmao, that'd be like Apple and Microsoft working to build a PC
Didn't Square by the rights to the name: Chrono Break?

Well, Nintendo and Square are kissing and making up as we speak with Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicle about to bloom on the gamecube. However, i doubt they will actually make a game with each other in a while. Square and Enix are merging in half a month, and Enix have severed all ties with both Microsoft Xbox (a wise move) and Nintendo Gamecube (perhaps not...) so half of the newly merged company will be refusing to release for Gamecube. Also, a certain percentage of square belongs to sony, while decreasing because of the merger, its still there, this could create a few legal hurdles to jump for a partnership between nintendo and square. Though hopefully it may happen one day.

By the way, Xellos, im downloading that FFX-2 trailer (58 megs), its taking a while and it probably wont play on my computer, but at least i can say i tried to see it
Anyway, yeah, Chrono Break would be great...if they got some of the original team to work on it. What would a Chrono game be without Yasunori Mitsuda's input? They will have to get things sorted with MonolothSoft if they want to release a Chrono sequel that lives up to the quality of the previous two.

IRT Cataferal: It's indeed a wise move to not waste money on billy's stuff, sega (the finest example of stupidity) did and now they can't buy a Coke with their incomes. As for the GameCube, it is not. I think some games on the console would be profitable, especially when it's lacking RPGs, long games, and adult-oriented games. It's easier to make money when you are one of the only ones providing what the system lacks. Besides, it's not good for the industry if sony consolidates its monopoly.
WRT Apple+M$ PC: Following current craposoft trend, the PC would run a Mac virtual machine, which runs a PC virtual machine in return, only to load the .NET virtual machine which runs programs stored inside a slow database (the WinFS filesystem, if you can call that a filesystem). Oh and I forgot - half of the OS is downloaded from the net, so it could take ages on slow connections. The key features would be that it's good for everything you don't need. System requeriments: 512 MB RAM to run Notepad, larger applications may require more.

LOL@your system...
Well. i'd like to defend the OSes downloaded from network. in UGR (University of GRanada from now on) there is a cach? with the OS's so, after the Identification process and until the boot of the OS, it doesn't spend more than 10 seconds. (in the 95% of the cases, not obstant...)
And i bet you haven't played most of the GC games, Wiseman. Eternal Darkness, or Resident Evil 1 or 0 are not for children, for example. And SSBM may look childish, but i have fun with it. not speaking of Capcom Vs Snk 2 (pretty bad Pal conversion! BTW) After playing those games, my opinion about GC is that it is not that childish. I hope to play soon SC2 and his exclusive "adult" Link

What is this is read about complaing at PAL conversions of PS2 games??
As a PC user and software engineer I don't understand why it matters that the game plays at 60 or 50hz.
Now it means you have to import games too??

There are two problems with PAL conversions:
1. The European PAL system has better vertical resolution than the American NTSC (I think it was 625 lines in PAL vs. 525 in NTSC). This means games have to work on a higher res on PAL systems to use the whole screen. Most developers don't give a shit for Europe and they don't bother to use higher res and adjust cameras, they just add black borders to the top and bottom of the screen, which are actually good for 16:9 TVs like mine (less distortion when stretching) but bad for most TVs.
2. The European PAL system works at 50 Hz agasint 60 Hz in NTSC, i.e. it has a lower framerate. While you can't tell the difference in smoothness and the flickering is disturbing in both systems (that's what 100/120 Hz TVs are for), you should scale all animations keyframes for PAL, so they move at the same speed. Developers (who don't give a shit for Europe ) don't bother to do this either. Characters and the whole game moves 16% slower and that's it. Besides, some games with poor graphic engines that weren't running at solid framerates in NTSC, might stutter in PAL.
3. To fix this, and because the 99% of PAL TVs support 60 Hz modes, most games on Saturn, Dreamcast and GameCube include a 60 Hz switch so you can play them at full speed and without borders (and higher framerates). However, $ony doesn't seem interested on this feature, because no PSX games and only very few PS2 games include 60 Hz switches (and it's so easy to add that... people converting games to PAL that don't do this have to be mildly retarded). Maybe it's to screw us Europeans. They suck.

Thanks for the explanation Wiseman.
Like I thought it really is only a very minor effort to make a proper PAL conversion.
Is there a list somewhere of games that have proper PAL conversion and those that suck?
There really is a lot to take into consideration when playing games on a Playstation 2
